Recreation Grounds

The Recreation Grounds "The Rec" at Maes-y-Dre can be accessed:

  1. from Severn Road by Howell's Drive

  2. by the road beside the canal that leaves Severn Road by Howell's Bridge

  3. via the footbridge on Berriew Street near Morrisons Store

The following sports facilities are available:

football pitches, junior football pitch, Scansis all weather pitch at Oldford (opposite), rugby pitch, cricket pitch, two bowling greens, hockey pitch, showers and changing rooms, skateboard park and children's playgrounds.

Welshpool Bowling Club as two flat greens with a very active Club.

Cricket

Welshpool Cricket Club is very active and fields three teams which have enjoyed recent successes.  They have their own pavilion at Maes-y-Dre which is a shared facility with the Rugby Club.  They can be contacted via this website or

Football

There are a number of football pitches at Maes-y-Dre with the all weather Scansis pitch being close by on the Oldford estate.  These facilities play host to two Football Clubs:

Welshpool Town Football Club known as the Lilywhites were founded in 1878 and have had mixed success in recent years.  More about the history of the club is available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technogroup_Welshpool_Town_F.C.

Waterloo Rovers Football Club were formed after the last war by local brothers Tom and Bert James.  They run a number of teams (including a number of youth sides) and have enjoyed recent successes.  More about the history of club is available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterloo_Rovers_F.C.

Rugby

Welshpool Rugby Club runs a number of sides including ladies and youth teams.  There is currently one Rugby pitch but it is hoped by the club to expand this to two.  They have a purpose built clubhouse with bar that is shared with the Cricket Club.  Contact the club via their website or
