Welshpool Town Centre Review
The Town Council plan is not a statutory plan but does set out the policy of the Town Council so that Powys County Council is aware of what is being sought for the town.
The 2008 Town Plan
In 2008 a town plan was put together in an attempt to ensure that future developments were co-ordinated.
The consultation process including residents, business and all interested parties and the current plan policy was supported at that time by a majority.
Since that time much has happended, the Town has a new road scheme, a recession, a new Tesco and the effects of the internet. The Town Council resolved in February 2012 to review the plan in the light of current events.
The Council will approve the consultation process in May with the consultation taking place during June and July. Residents, business and interested parties will all be involved. The overall plan should be in a position to be approved by September 2012.
What will be considered
The consultation will cover the following areas:
- Road pattern
- Future shopping development
- Car Parking
- Loading and unloading
- Other business uses
- Themes for the plan
- The Portas Report - regeneration
The plan will also need to take into account the emerging Local Development Plan being currently prepared by Powys County Council.
How can you take part?
To take part you will need to watch out for publicity. There will be leaflets, questionnaires, public meetings and other methods of gaining the views of everyone.
