TOURIST INFORMATION OFFICE BENEFITS WELSHPOOL
TOURIST INFORMATION BENEFITS WELSHPOOL
The Tourist Information Centre was taken over by Welshpool Town Council in 2009 as it was seen as an integral part of the local economy along with the public toilets and coach parking. Welshpool is a stopping off point for many on their way to the coast and without these facilities people would not always call at Welshpool.
Many towns in Mid Wales have lost their Tourist Information Centres with others having information points only. Welshpool offers the full service and is networked with all the other centres in Wales. The services range from bed bookings, mapping, National Express tickets, fishing licenses, Owns Coach bookings, Tanat Valley bookings, Sabrina bookings, Information and leaflets, display boards, local posters, gifts and souvenirs, refreshments and toys. The Welshpool Tourist Centre (branded Visit Welshpool) is the last networked Tourist Information before the coast.
The Town Clerk (Robert Robinson) informed members of Welshpool Town Council of the annual figures for the Tourist Information Service recently issued fro the whole of Wales. Welshpool comes out very well compared with others with the bed bookings service being the highest in Wales and the visitor levels among the top locations seeing just over 17,000 enquiries in the first 6 months of this year.
Cllr John Corfield he Chair of the Council Services Committee said 'this is a tremendous boost for Welshpool and must contribute greatly to the local economy and the economies of Mid Wales. I would like to thank all the Town Council Staff who provide a wonderful service to the public. Welshpool should be proud of their Tourist Information Centre'
